Ukiah Clinic Received Recalled Shots Linked To Meningitis Outbreak

UKIAH (CBS / AP) -- Federal officials say four California clinics, including one in Mendocino County, received steroid shots from a recalled batch linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak that has caused five deaths and 40 cases of the illness in other states.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the shots, used to relieve back pain, were received by Cypress Surgery Center in Visalia, Encino Outpatient Surgical Center, Ukiah Valley Medical Center and Universal Pain Management in Palmdale.

The California Department of Public Health said no cases of meningitis have been reported here.

It's unclear if any of the California clinics administered shots from the recalled lot, and whether any of those shots were contaminated with fungus and administered.

Across the country, 75 clinics received the recalled steroid shots.
