Hayward Pedestrian Killed In Crash With Motorcycle

HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A 66-year-old Hayward man was killed when he was struck by a motorcycle in the city on Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motorcyclist near Jackson Street and Silva Avenue at about 8:55 p.m., according to Hayward police.

Arriving officers found the pedestrian lying near the southwest corner of the intersection.

A motorcyclist, a 26-year-old Hayward man, had been driving east on Jackson Street when he struck the pedestrian crossing the street in a crosswalk, police said.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected, police said. He was found several lying feet from the intersection.

Both men were taken to Eden Medical Center, where the pedestrian later died, police said.

The motorcyclist was treated for injuries that were not expected to be life threatening.

Alcohol appeared to have been a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation by Hayward police.
