Aggressive Palo Alto Panhandler Punches Man, Rifles Through Pockets For Refusing Plea For Money

PALO ALTO (CBS/AP) -- An aggressive panhandler was arrested for punching a man in Palo Alto and going through his pockets because he refused his plea for money.

The victim was on a break from his job in downtown Palo Alto when 25-year-old Jesus Gabriel Cruz approached and asked for money.

Investigators told the San Jose Mercury News on Monday that the victim refused and Cruz punched him several times and searched his pockets.

Cruz was arrested after struggling with police. He was in jail where he was booked for investigation of attempted robbery resisting arrest.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene.
