Daily Madden: Giants Shouldn't Be Thinking About Retaliation

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - San Francisco Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro was in the starting lineup for Wednesday's NLCS Game 3 against the Cardinals in St. Louis. Scutaro was injured when Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday aggressively collided with him in Game 2 to break up a double play.

Will the Giants retaliate? "You're playing a game, and the game is championship baseball, and you have to win," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew Wednesday. "You can't be focused on that stuff. If you're thinking about that stuff, you're going to lose anyway. When you start going in a different direction and worrying about retaliation, then you have to worry about how do I retaliate, when do I retaliate, and pretty soon retaliation becomes the main thing. And you forget you got to play the game and win."

The NLCS is tied at one game apiece.

The owners of the Cleveland Browns are replacing Mike Holmgren as the team president. "Knowing Mike Holmgren, I don't think he has football out of his system," Madden said. Holmgren is the former head coach of the Packers and Seahawks who started his coaching career in San Francisco. "I wouldn't be surprised that if someone went after him as a coach, he wouldn't do that again."

In other NFL news, San Francisco has been named a finalist to host the 2016 Super Bowl. "I think it would be great for the Bay Area to get the Super Bowl," Madden said. "I think that's something that anyone that can do anything to push for or press it should do it." NFL owners will decide in May whether the game will be played in the Bay Area or Miami.
