Shotgun-Wielding Man Stripped Of Weapon During Attempted Santa Cruz Robbery

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A man carrying a shotgun attempted to rob a Santa Cruz business at gunpoint on Saturday night, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of California Avenue at about 8:20 p.m., according to Santa Cruz police.

A suspect entered the business carrying a full-size black pump shotgun and demanded money from an employee, police said.

The employee grabbed the shotgun, and after a brief struggle, the suspect fled the scene on foot with no money or merchandise, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Police searched the area with the help of K-9 "Lobo," but the suspect was not found.

The suspect was described as a man in his 20s between 5 feet 2 and 5 feet 4 inches tall. He was wearing a blue beanie, a black patterned bandana, a gray hoodie, black gloves, black pants, and black slip-on shoes.
