Founder Of Computer Anti-Virus Firm McAfee Wanted In Belize Murder

AMBERGIS CAYE, Belize (KCBS) - The founder of Santa Clara-based security software firm McAfee is wanted for questioning in connection with a murder in the Central American nation.

John McAfee is the neighbor of 52-year-old Gregory Viant Faull, who was found with a gunshot wound to his head inside his home north of San Pedro, a town on the island of Ambergris Caye, the largest among the hundreds of island and islets along Belize's Caribbean coast.

KCBS Reports:

A police spokesman said Faull was found with a gunshot wound to his head inside his home and that his computer and phone were missing, but there were no signs of forced entry.

The housekeeper discovered the body Sunday and called police, according to the spokesman

Tech blog Gizmodo reported that McAfee and Faull had reportedly been at odds for some time, with Faull filing a formal complaint against McAfee for firing off guns last week.

Gizmodo reported that McAfee's behavior had recently become increasingly erratic and he has admitted to associating with notorious gangsters.

The blog said McAfee has previously posted on a drug-focused Russian message board about his experimentations with bath salts.

McAfee founded his security software company back in 1987. He is no longer connected with the company.
