Hiker Rescued After Fall From Pinnacle Overlooking Sonoma Valley

SANTA ROSA (CBS/AP) -- Authorities say a Sonoma County Sheriff's helicopter crew rescued a 68-year-old hiker who suffered a head injury when he fell from a pinnacle overlooking the Sonoma Valley.

The rescue on Hood Mountain began around 11:30 a.m. Thursday when several hikers reported the unidentified Kenwood man's fall. He apparently dropped 10 to 15 feet.

The crew reached the man using a 100-foot line, brought him on board and then transferred him to another helicopter at a nearby landing spot. He was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital

His condition was not immediately available.

Authorities say it would have taken emergency responders at least 45 minutes to reach the man on foot.
