BART Station Parking Lot Costs Could Triple

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS /AP) - Bay Area commuters could see parking lot costs triple at BART stations.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit district is considering a proposal to raise parking charges incrementally as demand increases.

Parking fees are now $1 a day at most stations. Those prices could go up 50 cents twice a year with a cap of $3.

Prices at the West Oakland and San Mateo County stations are already set by demand.

KCBS, CBS 5 and SF Chronicle Insider Phil Matier:

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said parking policies haven't been reviewed or revised in several years and the district wants to make sure it covers the costs of policing, cleaning and maintenance.
