Abuse Suspected In Death Of San Francisco Teen Girl

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - San Francisco police are investigating the suspicious death of a 16-year-old girl in the city's Bayview District.

Officers saw the girl down on the sidewalk around 12:45 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Quesada Avenue and Jennings Street.

The officers began CPR and called for an ambulance after seeing that the girl was in distress, but she was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.

KCBS' Rebecca Corral Reports:

The girl has been identified by the medical examiner's office as Jaynice Johnson.

Investigators eventually went to the victim's home and, based on the conditions there, determined some sort of abuse had taken place. A 46-year-old man there was detained as a possible suspect in the death, police said.

More information about the case, including the suspect's name and relationship to the victim, was not being released as of Monday morning, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
