Mail Collection Box Stolen From Alameda Street

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) - The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever stole a mailbox from an Alameda street.

Authorities say a blue mail collection box was reported missing on Thursday morning from its location outside the Alameda Main Post Office on Shoreline Drive.

It was not immediately clear when the Postal Service last collected mail from the box, or when it went missing over the weekend.

Officials are urging anyone who used the box to check their bank and credit statements.

Authorities are investigating the case and say mail theft is a federal offense.
