Funding Approved For New Bay Bridge Celebration
OAKLAND (KPIX 5) - A packed weekend of activities just got the funding green light for the Labor Day Weekend opening of the New Bay Bridge span.
On Wednesday, the Bay Area Toll Authority approved a $5.6 million dollar budget to pay for things such as first aid stations, bathrooms and busses for the weekend. Among the events under consideration ahead of the ribbon cutting is a bridge walk, a half marathon and perhaps a concert.
Transit officials are also considering charging walkers $5 to cross the bridge to help offset the cost. A not-for-profit called the Bay Bridge Alliance is raising private money to help put on the events.
KPIX 5 and KCBS Radio are the official broadcast partners of the Bay Bridge Alliance.
