San Jose Introduces 'Fastest Public Wi-Fi Network'

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Surfing the web in downtown San Jose is about to get a lot faster as officials are introducing what's being called "the fastest public Wi-Fi network in the U.S." on Thursday.

Web pages are expected to load four times faster on the free, Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi Network thanks in large part to state-of-the-art technology developed in Silicon Valley.

San Jose To Upgrade Public Wi-Fi Network

San Jose Downtown Association Executive Director Scott Knies said it's a no-brainer that the city should have the fastest Wi-Fi network in the country.

"It's kind of like food, water and air around here. You need to be on the Internet and you need to be on it fast," said Knies.

The Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi Network will be accessible through the entire downtown core. The news is not only good for people sitting at sidewalk cafes, but for business travelers as well.

The Network will only have a minimal cost to the City of San Jose because of a public-private partnership.

It is also expected to benefit the downtown parking infrastructure, primarily pay-to-park meters, by improving the speed by which time-sensitive transactions occur.
