Second Plane Accident This Week Reported At Small San Jose Airport

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – A small plane skidded off the runway at San Jose's Reid Hillview Airport Wednesday night after its landing gear collapsed, the second accident in the last week.

Just before 7:00 p.m., the plane ran off the runway, skidding into an adjacent field.

"It was noted that the landing gear either fell or was knocked down as the plane was resting on its belly," said San Jose Fire Department Captain Reggie Williams. "When firefighters arrived, there was no fire afterwards and no other hazards such as a fuel leak."

The pilot and passenger were treated for minor injuries.

It's still unclear if the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the accident.

A similar incident occurred at the airport on Sunday, as another plane had its landing gear collapse. Fortunately there were no injuries in that accident either.

Reid Hillview Airport houses dozens of similar small planes.
