Body Of SF Sheriff's Deputy Found Near Vallejo Marina

VALLEJO (CBS SF) - Authorities have recovered the body of a San Francisco Sheriff's deputy whose boat was found adrift near a Vallejo Marina.

The search began after the 26-foot vessel was found unoccupied and adrift near the marina around 6:45 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman Lt. Heather Lampert said. Crews spent much of the day searching the area. The body was found in the afternoon.

The victim, 56-year-old San Francisco Sheriff's Deputy Michael Roberts, was on his day off, San Francisco sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Fahey said.

"The Coast Guard there at Station Vallejo received a notification, I believe it was just someone in the general public, saying that they located someone in the water. They went over to Bravo Dock and they did find the body of the missing deputy"

Lampert said the boat had keys in the ignition and there was a cellphone onboard.

Vallejo police Lt. Kenny Park said the Robert's wallet was also found on the fishing boat.

Parks said authorities do not suspect foul play.
Sheriff's spokesman Susan Fahey said Roberts was a Hercules resident and married with children.
He had been working for the department since 1998.
