Convicted Felon Arrested With Loaded Gun In Car, Rifle, Ammo In Home

WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) -- A convicted felon seen with firearms in his neighborhood was arrested Saturday after Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies recovered a loaded handgun from his car and a rifle from his home, according to the sheriff's office.

Erin Fischer, 56, of Watsonville, was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm in his vehicle, deputies said.

Sheriff's deputies were on their way to serve a search warrant at Fischer's home in Watsonville when they saw him driving on Highland Road at about 10 a.m.

After stopping him, deputies searched his car, found the loaded handgun and placed him under arrest.

Deputies later searched his home in the 2000 block of Eureka Canyon Road where they located a rifle and various rounds of ammunition and that led to his arrest on possession of firearms and ammunition.

The sheriff's office received reports that Fischer, who has felony convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and possessing firearms and explosives, had been seen with firearms in his neighborhood, deputies said.

Due to his previous criminal history, Fischer's bail was increased to $250,000, deputies said.
