Woman Found Dead In Napa Pool Was Daughter-In-Law Of Don Perata

NAPA (CBS SF) -- Catherine Perata, the 38-year-old woman who was found dead Saturday in a swimming pool at her Napa home, was former state Senate President pro tem Don Perata's daughter-in-law, Napa police said Monday afternoon.

Perata was married to Nick Perata, Don Perata's son, Capt. Jeff Troendly said.

Nick and Catherine Perata owned and operated Perata Luxury Tours & Car Services in the Napa Valley since 2009, and have two daughters, according to the company's website.

An autopsy on Monday indicated Catherine Perata appears to have drowned, Troendly said. Final results on the cause of death are pending toxicology tests.

Nick Perata discovered his wife's body around 9 a.m. in the pool at their home in the 900 block of Chelebrooke Court, Troendly said.

Nothing indicates foul play was involved in the death, Troendly said Monday.

Don Perata, 67, was the state Senate's president pro tem between 2004 and 2008. He was a state senator between 1998 and 2004, and a state Assemblyman from 1969 to 1998. He also served on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.

Perata lost a bid to be mayor of Oakland in 2010.
