Larry Magid: Wearable Technology Featured At AllThingsD Conference

RANCHO PALOS VERDES (KCBS) – The AllThingsD D11 Conference wrapped up in Southern California on Thursday, with one of the hot topics being wearable technology.

Google Glasses have been in the news, but there were many other items on display. Apple CEO Tim Cook, who was at this week's event, said it is hard to see if there will be "broad appeal" for this type of technology.

Cook, in a question and answer session, was rather coy about any possible future Apple wearable products, but did mention that Nike's FuelBand was "well made for the fitness category." He did not add to the rumors of a possible iWatch for Apple.

The products on display this week ranged from electronic tattoos, a number of different fitness products and even pills that people can ingest, used for diagnostic purposes or to authenticate a person.

This wearable technology is seen as important because unlike smartphones and tablets, which are popular, if not a bit bulky, these items actually attach to a person's body, making it more convenient to carry around and use.

You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
