Office Building In Napa Briefly Evacuated After Anthrax Scare

NAPA (CBS SF)— A medical malpractice insurance company in Napa was evacuated Tuesday morning after a potentially hazardous material was discovered there, a Napa County sheriff's spokeswoman said.

At about 7:50 a.m., an employee at the Doctors Company opened a package that was left at the business and reported seeing the word "anthrax" and a substance that resembled blood, Napa County sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.

The sheriff's office and a hazardous materials team responded and quarantined two employees who could have been exposed, Stuart said.

The victims were not injured and have since been cleared, she said.

The building at 185 Greenwood Road was temporarily evacuated.

Further details about the package and what it contained were not immediately available.

The FBI has taken over the investigation and will be conducting tests for any evidence of hazardous materials, Stuart said.
