SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5 / KCBS) - A collision between a San Francisco Municipal Railway vintage streetcar and a bus on Market Street has injured at least 15 people, many children who were on a school field trip.

The crash was reported at Market and Sixth streets at 11:04 a.m.

San Francisco Muni spokesman Paul Rose says the circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear. Video shows the F-Line streetcar had apparently rear-ended the 9 San Bruno trolley bus.

The injured children were among 31 students on a field trip from Vision Academy in San Francisco, according to school counselor Mildred Clark. Some of the kids who were not hurt were planning to continue their field trip to the SF Cable Car Museum, said Clark.

15 people were transported to the hospital, nine of those were children, according to Rose.

Paramedics were on the scene triaging patients. None of the injuries were life-threatening, said fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge.

A man who works at the Luggage Store Gallery at Market and 6th heard the accident. "It was a really loud boom, said Rich, who declined to use his last name. "I was looking to see if anyone was hurt and people started to get off the bus. By that time ambulances and fire trucks started to show up and police showed up," he said.

The witness said some people involved in the accident were holding ice to their heads and others were taken out on stretchers.

The fire department along with several ambulances were on the scene, one of them had children from the accident inside who appeared to be elementary school age as young as five and six years old.
