(KCBS) – KCBS Entertainment Editor Jan Wahl reviews "The Bling Ring," the latest film from director Sofia Coppola about young people in Southern California caught up in our celebrity-obsessed culture, based on true events.

KCBS Entertainment Reporter Jan Wahl:

Jan Wahl Movie Review: The Bling Ring (R)

THE BLING RING

Sofia Coppola gives us a really interesting movie based on fact— the craziness and obsession of a group of kids in Los Angeles and why they decide to rob the homes of famous people like Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton. It's an interesting morality tale and extremely well done with its social commentary. The director seems far too much at home in the world she depicts and it would have been better if she could have taken a bit of a distance, but I still loved the film and I think you will too.

It's so unusual to see these kids and what they consider important in life—the name of the movie is the 'The Bling Ring.' There are terrific some visuals here as we see their world—the kid's world, why they are doing these rip-offs and the world that only cares about what label you wear. There is raucous soundtrack, some really fine performances, especially Emma Watson's portrayal of Nikki—a girl that really needs some help. It's something worth seeing.
