Suspicious Packges In SF's Russian Hill, Financial District Deemed Harmless

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS/KPIX 5) — Members of the San Francisco police bomb squad determined suspicious objects found in two different city neighborhoods on Friday were harmless.

The first incident involved a 911 call about an abandoned suitcase found on Filbert Street just west of Polk Street on Russian Hill.

Police cordoned off the surrounding two block area of Polk between Union and Greenwich streets, redirecting drivers and pedestrians while the bomb squad examined the suitcase around 11 a.m.; it was later deemed safe and investigators had left the scene by noon.

While handling that first incident, police were alerted about a second suspicious object at 1 Market Street in the Financial District.

Additional officers headed to the second location and just before noon, they determined that package was not a threat either.
