San Jose Makes Key Bicycle Route Safer
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — Two miles of bicycle lanes have been added to a key commute route in San Jose to encourage more people to get on their bikes.
The lanes have been added to Hedding St. east of Highway 87 and have been painted green.
"We're celebrating another milestone in San Jose's effort to be one of the best biking cities in the United States. What we're doing here is celebrating our first green-painted bike lane," said San Jose Transportation Director Hans Larsen.

One bicyclist said the fresh-painted lane adds to the comfort level and gives a safer feel to riding. In addition, 40 new trees are also being planted around the route.
"Bicyclists, pedestrians and even drivers driving by really will have healthier air to breathe as they're going through and shade and beautiful views," said Rhonda Berry, CEO of Our City Forest.
The city has added nine miles of bike lanes in the downtown area.
