The robbery was reported about 2:25 a.m. Tuesday in the first block of Elmira Street, just south of Industrial Street.

Authorities arrived to find two men and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and transported them to San Francisco General Hospital.

Investigators determined that three suspects had broken into the home, which was occupied by a 37-year-old man, his 31-year-old wife and their two young children, police said.

When the couple confronted the suspects, they were both shot. The woman was shot in the chest and suffered life-threatening injuries while her husband was shot in the leg and was expected to survive, police said. The children were unharmed.

The other two suspects fled and had not been found as of Friday morning, police spokesman Sgt. Dennis Toomer said.
