Cal's Childs, Suh Conclude U.S. Women's Open Runs

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (CBS SF) – The U.S. Women's Open suspended play Friday night due to fog covering the Sebonack Golf Club, but not after Cal Golden Bears alum Emily Childs and rising sophomore Hannah Suh concluded their runs in their first appearances at an LPGA Tour major.

Childs finished with a 36-hole score of 77-81=158 (+14), and Suh concluded her weekend right behind at 80-79=159 (+15). With a portion of the field still waiting to finish their rounds, the official cuts and placements will not be made until Saturday when play resumes.

Childs, who hit 13 pars and five bogeys in Thursday's opening round, rebounded from a rough beginning in the erratic Friday weather to finish strong on the back nine Thursday. Standing at 8-over through nine holes – partially due to a triple-bogey on the 7th – Childs proceeded to hit birdies on the 10th and 11th as well as the 18th to shoot one-over on the back nine and finish the day with an 81.

Suh, who was the first alternate at the Sectional that Childs qualified at, bested her opening round 80 by shooting a 7-over 79 Friday. The San Jose native hit 11 pars and had a solid day in the weather with 13 out of 14 fairways hit.
