Man Found Stabbed To Death In San Jose Homeless Shelter

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man was found fatally stabbed at a homeless shelter and resource center in San Jose Wednesday morning, police said.

Shortly after 12 a.m., police received a report that a person had been stabbed at the Julian Street Inn located in the 500 block of West Julian Street.

Arriving officers found a man with stab wounds. Investigators believe two people staying at the shelter got into a fight and one person stabbed the other.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:25 a.m.

A possible suspect has been detained in connection with the stabbing, police said.

The Julian Street Inn is operated by InnVision the Way Home and provides 70 shelter beds for men and women with mental illnesses.

"This is a very tragic incident. We regret it deeply," InnVision Shelter spokeswoman Maria Duzon said.

The staff is cooperating with the police investigation and focusing their efforts on providing care for their clients, Duzon said.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has not yet released the victim's name.

The killing marks San Jose's 26th homicide of 2013.
