Vallejo Woman Accused Of Abandoning Son In Gas Station Restroom

VALLEJO (CBS / AP) -- A 22-year-old mother has been arrested in Vallejo after surveillance video captured her abandoning her 1-year-old son in a gas station bathroom.

Police released a video still of the mother after the toddler was found at a Chevron station bathroom. He was left alone for about an hour.

A surveillance camera captured the mother push a stroller into the bathroom, staying there for nine minutes before walking away from the gas station.

Lt. John Whitney said tipsters called police after seeing the video still, leading investigators to arrest Joia Hukill at a residence in Vallejo. She was booked for investigation of child endangerment and child abandonment.

The boy was placed in child protective custody.
