Promotion Offers Free Ferry Ride From San Francisco To North Bay

LARKSPUR (KCBS) – Golden Gate Ferry officials are running a promotion the entire month of August, in an effort to get more San Franciscans to take a ride to the North Bay.

San Francisco residents and visitors to the city are being offered a free round trip ferry ride to Marin. "The idea is to familiarize folks with the ferry, that may never have had a chance to ride it in off-peak hours," said Mary Currie, with the Golden Gate Bridge District.

During August, free ferry rides are being offered between the Golden Gate San Francisco Ferry Terminal and Larkspur's Marin Country Mart on select qualifying departures. For travel from San Francisco to Larkspur, qualifying departure times include weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and one weekend departure at 12:40 p.m. On return trips to San Francisco, a free ticket is offered on travel between 10:10 a.m. and 8:50 p.m. on weekdays and at 4:45 p.m. on weekends.

Nellie Draganic with the Marin Country Mart said there is plenty of variety in the North Bay, including "Farm Shop, which just got a beautiful review by Michael Bauer and the San Francisco Chronicle," she said.

The Marin Country Mart also features Friday night jazz, a Saturday farmer's market and Off the Grid food truck event on Sundays.

Free ferry tickets can be downloaded from the Golden Gate Bridge District's website, goldengateferry.org.
