Freon Gas Leak Forces Evacuation Of SF Whole Foods Market

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A San Francisco Whole Foods Market was evacuated Tuesday afternoon because of refrigeration unit that was leaking gas, a fire department employee said.

The leak was reported at 2:04 p.m. at the Whole Foods at 1765 California St. Fire crews arrived a short time later and capped the leak.

Two people were medically evaluated at the scene, but no one was taken to a hospital, the employee said.

The refrigerator appeared to have leaked a Freon gas, she said.

As of 3:25 p.m., the department's hazardous materials unit remained at the site of the incident.
