Security Guard Returning To San Jose Home Shoots Suspected Car Burglar

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – San Jose police are investigating a shooting early Wednesday morning that injured a person suspected of attempting to break into a car.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the Le Mirador Senior Apartments on Coleman Road near Almaden Expressway, when a security guard, who was returning home, saw four suspects breaking into cars.

"He confronted them. Some type of conflict occurred," said Lt. Stephen Lagorio with the San Jose Police Department. "The security guard was armed and discharged his weapon. The suspects were in a vehicle and fled the area. One suspect was located about a mile away and that suspect had a gunshot wound."

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other three suspects remain at large.

The off-duty security guard was questioned by police at headquarters and is cooperating with the investigation.

Lagorio said the group of suspects tried to break-in to at least five cars and the vehicle they were driving was stolen.
