Amtrak Train Hits Car On Tracks In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Amtrak train struck a vehicle on the tracks in East Oakland Wednesday, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.

Capitol Corridor train No. 533 was heading from Sacramento to San Jose when it struck the car at 37th Avenue around 11:20 a.m., spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

There were no injuries reported to the 85 passengers onboard the train, however some of the occupants in the car were injured, Graham said.

The passengers were held on the train until they were picked up by the next train around 12:30 p.m., she said.

Passengers were moved onto train No. 535 that would continue onto San Jose, Graham said.

The train behind the incident was delayed about an hour, Graham said.
