$1 Million Arrest Warrant For Man Suspected In Salinas Gang Shooting

SALINAS (CBS SF) - Salinas police have a $1 million arrest warrant for a man suspected of a gang-related shooting last week that critically wounded a victim who is still hospitalized, police said today.

Fernando "Freddy" Valdez, 23, is wanted in the Sept. 10 shooting of a victim who suffered multiple bullet wounds while sitting in a vehicle at the intersection of John Street and South Sanborn Road in Salinas, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was wounded in the torso and reported in critical condition that day at a trauma center. The person is currently in stable condition at a hospital, police said.

Valdez is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, 250 pounds with brown eyes and black hair and the tattoos "Salinas" on his chest, "SEM" on his abdomen, "Jesus" on his right forearm and "Valdez" on his back, police said.

Valdez may be associated with a 2004 to 2006 silver, 4-door Honda Accord car, police said.

The warrant put out for Valdez, who is considered armed and dangerous, is for $1 million bail in connection with an attempted murder that is considered gang-related, police said.

Salinas police are urging anyone with information about Valdez to contact Detective Arlene Currier at (831) 758-7125 or the department's tip line at (831) 775-4222.
