2 Small Earthquakes Jolt Southern California

LA VERNE, Los Angeles County (CBS/AP) -- Two small early-morning earthquakes have jolted the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in eastern Los Angeles County but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

The US Geological Survey said the first quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 3.7, struck at 4:43 a.m. Thursday about a mile southwest of La Verne.

The second quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 3.8, struck in the same area at about 5:06 a.m.

Both quakes registered at depths of less than a mile.

A dispatcher says the La Verne police headquarters rattled for a few seconds each time. Police had received no calls reporting damage or injuries.

The epicenters were about two miles northwest of Pomona and about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
