Shots Fired In San Francisco's Hunters Point Prompts Brief School Lockdown

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Multiple shots were fired in San Francisco's Hunters Point neighborhood Friday afternoon, prompting a lockdown at a nearby elementary school, according to police.

Multiple calls to 911 reported more than a dozen shots fired in the 700 block of Kirkwood Avenue around 3:20 p.m., police said.

Students and staff at Malcolm X Elementary School, located at 350 Harbor Road, were ordered to shelter in place, police said.

Officers responded to the area and found spent rounds littered along the street.

Some bullets had damaged vehicles parked on the street but no one appeared to have been hit by the gunfire, according to police.

As of 4:15 p.m., the school had dismissed all students after police secured the area.

Police shut down Kirkwood Avenue between Earl Street and Dormitory Road for the investigation.

No suspects were in custody in connection with the shooting as of this afternoon, according to police.
