Richmond Tanker Crash, Gas Spill Forces Hotel Evacuation

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A hotel in Richmond was evacuated Monday morning after a double tanker gas trailer overturned.

The trailer overturned at the Carlson Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound Interstate Highway 80 at about 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Gas leaked from the vehicle, but was contained to the roadway, CHP Officer James Evans said.

The on- and off-ramps of eastbound Highway 80 were closed as crews worked to clear the trailer and gas from the roadway, Evans said.

It was unknown when they would reopen, he said.

A nearby hotel was evacuated as a precaution, a Richmond fire dispatcher said.
