SF General Asked Sheriff's Deputies To Search For Woman Found Dead In Stairwell

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- The attorney for the family of a woman found dead in a San Francisco hospital stairwell says officials there made four request for sheriff's deputies to search the medical center for the missing patient.

Attorney Haig Harris said Friday that deputies "did not conduct a thorough search."

57-year-old Lynne Spalding was admitted to San Francisco General Hospital on Sept. 19 for a bladder infection and disappeared two days later. On Oct. 8 her body was found in the stairwell.

San Francisco Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Susan Fahey would not comment on whether deputies had searched for the missing woman.

Harris said he had been briefed on Thursday by the hospital's chief of medicine. Hospital officials confirmed the conversation but would not say what was discussed. ------
