Windsor Teen Wakes Up To Find Bedroom Intruder; 16-Year-Old Arrested

WINDSOR (CBS SF) - A 16-year-old boy was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of residential burglary and attempted sexual assault after he turned up in a teenage girl's bedroom in southeast Windsor, a police sergeant said.

The boy had left an Alameda County group home located in Philo in Mendocino County, about 60 miles away, without permission sometime Thursday night or Friday morning, Windsor police Sgt. Marl Essick said.

Windsor police received a call at 8:54 a.m. Monday from a 17-year-old girl who said she was awakened by a sound and found a partially clothed young man in her bedroom, Essick said.

The girl was home alone and did not have school that day because of the Veterans Day holiday, Essick said.

The intruder, who was wearing only a camouflage T-shirt, fled when the girl yelled at him to leave, Essick said.

Police arrived at the Anna Drive residence several minutes later and found the suspect about 300 yards away, at Old Redwood Highway near Kendall Way, Essick said.

He was wearing a camouflage T-shirt and blue jeans, and the girl identified him as the intruder, Essick said.

Police found that a screen had been torn and its frame partially pried out from a locked window on a utility room at the home, police said. The boy might have entered the house through a side door on a garage because the door was ajar when police arrived, Essick said.

Investigators were still interviewing the suspect on Monday afternoon, Essick said.
