Body Found At San Leandro Marina Identified As SF City College Student

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A man whose body was found at the San Leandro Marina on Friday has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 20-year-old Derrick Shao.

Shao, a student at City College of San Francisco, was last seen around 10 a.m. on Nov. 7 in the 900 block of Ingerson Avenue in the city's Bayview District.

He was headed out to catch the 29-Sunset Muni bus to the school, police said. However, he never arrived and his family later reported him missing.

San Francisco police said that at the time of Shao's disappearance, he was wearing black-rimmed glasses, a dark blue North Face pullover jacket, dark jeans and red, black and white Nike shoes. He was carrying a JanSport backpack.

Shao had no history of going missing, police said.

His body was found in the water off of the marina in San Leandro around 7 a.m. Friday.

San Leandro police said the coroner's bureau is working to determine the cause of death.
