(CBS SF) - While sitting at the lobby of the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco Monday night, actor and social activist, Sean Penn went off on an unidentified man for sneaking a cell phone photo of him.

According to TMZ, the "Milk" star saw a flash go off from another person's cell phone and realized the man was trying to take a photo. Penn reacted immediately by screaming at him, "Do we look like f***ing zoo animals?"

In town to speak at a sales conference, Penn also grabbed the man's phone and threw it to the ground. TMZ captured the incident on video at TMZ.com. Penn can be heard yelling , "I'll make you eat the phone ... get the f**k out of here!!"

Moments later, a clearly irritated Penn complained to hotel management -- and can be heard saying, "You should do something about that."

TMZ was told hotel management approached the fan and asked him if he wanted to call the police, but the man declined and then left the bar.

The man was also an attendee at the same sales conference of Penn's speaking engagement.
