Police Identify Man Killed In Car Plunge Into Richmond Waterway

RICHMOND (CBS SF) - A man who died after his car plunged into the water at the Richmond Inner Harbor last week has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 43-year-old Kyle Miller.

Police believe Miller's Mercedes sedan went into the Santa Fe Channel near the 800 block of Wharf Street sometime late last Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.

Emergency responders headed to the scene around 8:15 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a car partially submerged in the water.

Police, fire crews, a sheriff's dive team and tow truck responded, and the car was pulled from the water shortly after 11 a.m. that day.

Miller's body was found inside.

Hill said police are classifying the death as an accident and believe Miller became trapped inside the vehicle.

According to Richmond fire officials, Miller lived aboard a boat in the harbor.
