Suspected Gang Member Arrested After Trying To Evade Police Near King City

KING CITY (CBS SF) -- A suspected gang member and another man were arrested early Sunday after trying to evade deputies near a trailer park south of King City, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Anthony Joseph Rios, 21, of Greenfield, a reputed member of the Norteno street gang, was arrested after deputies found a "Rambo" style survival knife, .25 caliber ammunition, 5.9 grams of marijuana and a methamphetamine pipe in his residence, deputies said.

Fernando Blanco, 24, of King City, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and being in violation of his probation, according to deputies.

Both men were also arrested on suspicion of evading and resisting a law enforcement officer, deputies said.

At about 12:52 a.m. Sunday, deputies stopped a 2007 Toyota Yaris, with Blanco behind the wheel and Rios a passenger in the back seat, for equipment violations at 51201 Pine Canyon Road in unincorporated Monterey County.

Rios then exited the car and fled on foot and as deputies chased Rios, Blanco drove the vehicle away from the scene, deputies said.

Some deputies called in for backup located the Toyota, pulled over Blanco and had him take a field sobriety test for alcohol, which he failed, deputies said.

Rios was arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons and drugs after deputies searched his home and found the knife, ammunition, marijuana and pipe.

Deputies also recovered gang paraphernalia from Rios' residence, they said.
