Cobbs 2nd Half Powers Cal Past Oregon St, 88-83

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Justin Cobbs scored 20 second-half points and sparked California to an 88-83 victory over Oregon State Saturday at Gill Coliseum.

Cobbs, held scoreless in the first half, made 6 of 9 shots from the field and 7 of 8 free throws after intermission and the Bears (12-4, 3-0 Pac-12) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Tyrone Wallace had 17 points and Richard Solomon added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Bears, who swept the Oregon schools on the road for the second consecutive season. Cal opened league play 3-0 for the first timeásince 2009.

Roberto Nelson led all scorers with 23 points and nine assists for the Beavers (9-7, 1-3), who suffered their first home loss in league play.

Trailing 45-35, the Bears used an 18-7 run to start the second half, taking a 53-52 lead when Wallace put back his missed free throw with 14:04 left.

After three lead changes, Wallace dunked to give Cal the lead for good, 62-61, with 10:38 remaining. Jeff Powers added a pair of 3-pointers and Cobbs two free throws to extend the lead to 70-61 and the Bears maintained at least a five-point cushion the rest of the way.

David Kravish finished with 16 points and Jeff Powers had 14 off the bench for the Bears, who shot 54.8 percent (17 of 31) from the field in the second half and 51.7 percent (31 of 60) for the game.

The Beavers started 7 of 10 from the field with four 3-pointers from four different starters and jumped to an 18-11 lead after the first five minutes.

After Cal crept within three, 20-17, on Wallace's basket, the Beavers went on an 8-for-10 tear from the field capped by a Langston Morris-Walker 3-pointer that extended the lead to 41-27 with 1:51 left in the half.

OSU shot 63 percent (17 of 27) for the half with seven 3s and went to the break leading 45-35 behind Nelson's 13 points. Eric Moreland added 7 points and six rebounds.

Solomon had 12 first-half points to lead the Bears, who shot 48.3 percent (14 of 29).
