San Leandro Mother, Child Carjacked In Driveway Of Home

SAN LEANDRO (BCN) -- A woman and her 12-year-old son were carjacked in the driveway of their home in San Leandro's Broadmoor neighborhood on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The woman and her son were approached by four male suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, as they came back to their home in the 500 block of Broadmoor Boulevard at about 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

The suspect who brandished a handgun demanded the woman's purse and she quickly handed it over, according to police.

The four suspects then got into the woman's Honda SUV and drove away from the area, police said.

After police were notified of the incident, officers found the Honda, which was unoccupied, parked on MacArthur Boulevard near Frazier Avenue in Oakland about 30 minutes later, authorities said.

Police stopped four men in the area who appeared similar to the descriptions of the suspects but they didn't make any arrests, according to authorities.

The Honda was processed for evidence and later was returned to the woman, police said.

Authorities described the suspects as black males in their late teens to early 20s.

San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus said in a statement, "We are fortunate that no one was injured today. Our detectives will work diligently to identify and arrest those responsible for this crime."

McManus said people who live in the area where the crime occurred and have a home video surveillance system should check it because it might contain evidence that would help police us solve the case.
