Passengers Sick, Fainting After SFO Computer Glitch Creates Huge Delays

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- A computer glitch caused major chaos for people trying to make their way through the international terminal at San Francisco International Airport.

Passengers had to wait hours in line after disembarking. Some became weak and collapsed.

The Customs and Border Protection computers were reportedly only working intermittently for several hours. As a result, the lines to get through Customs were moving at a snail's pace.

There are few places to rest inside the terminals and there were reports some passengers passed out due to exhaustion and dehydration while they waited.

One listener told KCBS he had been waiting several hours for his girlfriend to come through customs and said airport officials were being tight-lipped with family members and passengers about the problem.

There was still no word late Saturday as to when the problem would be corrected. A duty manager at the airport said they were going to bring water to affected passengers and were working with emergency officials to take care of those who were feeling light headed.
