Novato Man Accused Of Trapping Woman In Home, Attacking Her

NOVATO (CBS SF) - A 34-year-old armed man has been arrested for allegedly trapping a woman in a home and attacking her in Novato, a police sergeant said.

Officers responded to a report of a suicidal person with several firearms on Alta Vista Court around 2:40 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Jennifer Dunlap said.

The woman told officers that the suspect, identified as Novato resident Lance Papka, had allegedly physically assaulted her, held her against her will and discharged a firearm inside the home, Dunlap said.

She was able to flee the residence and met with responding officers, informing them that Papka threatened he would commit suicide, according to Dunlap.

Officers positioned themselves around the home and confronted Papak when he stepped outside, Dunlap said.

He followed an officer's orders and was taken into custody without incident, she said.

The woman suffered minor injuries in the assault, according to Dunlap.

Papka was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, negligent discharge of a firearm and false imprisonment.
