String Of Burglaries In Santa Cruz Summit Area Puts Homeowners On Alert

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) - Santa Cruz County sheriff's officials are warning residents to be on the lookout for a suspect and car in connection with a recent string of burglaries in the Summit area of the county.

The burglaries occurred on Jenson Springs and Outer Zayante roads last Friday, as well as an attempted burglary reported on Jenson Springs Road while a resident was home, sheriff's officials said.

In the attempted burglary, the suspect knocked on the door of a home on Jenson Springs Road and tried opening the locked door when no one answered, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect then walked to the back of the home and tried opening another door, then then left.

Officials said the resident walked to the street and saw a man getting into a silver Ford Focus with the license plate No. 6YNM393.

The man was described as about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a dark complexion and a medium build and was between 20 and 30 years old. He fled when the resident yelled out to him, sheriff's officials said.

The suspect and the same car fled the area of another burglary at a home on Jenson Springs Road. A third burglary occurred at a home on nearby Outer Zayante Road but no suspect or suspect car was seen.

Officials said the same car is associated with multiple recent burglaries.

Residents are asked to make sure their home doors are locked and to be on the lookout for any suspicious people or vehicles. If the suspect or car is seen, residents should call 911.
