Time-Lapse Map Illustrates Explosion Of Evictions In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A group of anti-eviction activists who say gentrification is dramatically changing San Francisco have mapped evictions in the city over nearly two decades to "de-isolate" the eviction phenomenon and raise awareness about what neighborhoods are turning over.
"We are currently mapping who is being forced from their homes, how and why these evictions take place, and who is responsible," the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project says on the group's website.
The group has collected San Francisco Rent Board data to generate a timeline depiction of no-fault evictions in the city since 1997. Check out the map here.
"We want to show what landlords are serial evictors, what communities are being targeted the most, and where people relocate to," says the group.
The group has also done time-lapse maps of Ellis Act evictions, which critics say is being used as a loophole to oust lower rent tenants, as well as illustrations of recent evictions involving the elderly and disabled, and tenant removals near tech bus stops.
