Free Rides Offered For Bay Area Cinco De Mayo Revelers To Prevent Drunk Driving

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Bay Area residents and visitors who may be celebrating Cinco de Mayo by drinking alcohol are being offered free rides home to prevent drunk driving in the region.

Between 6 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, AAA is offering a free tow home of up to 10 miles for anyone who drank alcohol and needs to get their car home safely.

Potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders or restaurant managers can call (800) 222-4357 (AAA-HELP) to access the service.

"Many people enjoy getting into the spirit of Cinco de Mayo, which tends to involve plenty of celebrating," Cynthia Harris, AAA Northern California spokeswoman, said in a statement.

"If you've been drinking alcohol, don't get behind the wheel. Give AAA a call and we'll make sure you get home safely," Harris said.

People do not have to be AAA members to access the service.

The Alameda-based law firm Berg Injury Lawyers is also partnering with Luxor Cab Co. to provide free rides home from any bar or restaurant in San Francisco between 10 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Patrons can call Luxor Cab at (415) 282-4141 and ask the taxi driver to send their receipt to Berg Injury Lawyers. A limit of $35 will be paid for each ride home, according to the law firm.
