Girl Wounded In Oakland Drive-By Shooting Clings To Life

OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck in the neck by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting outside her Oakland home on Friday.

Oakland police say the girl was playing in the front yard with her younger brother when two men got out of a light-colored sedan and opened fire in east Oakland Friday night.

The girl was shot in the neck and rushed into emergency surgery at a local hospital.

Police say a man in his late 40s was also shot in the leg and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Police are investigating whether the man was the intended target. The victims' names have not been released.

Lt. Freddie Hamilton says more than 10 rounds were fired as police do not have a good description of the suspects.

No arrests have been made.
