Cal Fire Rescues 3 Hikers In Morgan Hill

MORGAN HILL (BCN) Cal Fire crews rescued three people who got stuck climbing the face of the Anderson Reservoir Dam just outside of Morgan Hill Thursday afternoon, a Cal Fire battalion chief said.

The three climbers were reported stuck about halfway up the face of the dam at about 2 p.m., Battalion Chief Brandon Leitzke said.

They realized they couldn't get back down the dam and either they or a bystander called for help, Leitzke said.

Two climbers were helped off the dam by ground crews using ropes while the third was pulled out with a helicopter, Leitzke said.

All three were checked out by paramedics at the scene and none were taken to a hospital, he said.

The climbers "just got themselves in a predicament," Leitzke said.

Cal Fire was assisted in the rescue by the Morgan Hill, San Jose fire departments and the South Santa Clara County Fire Protection District.
