Albany Residents Seeing Red Over Proposed Digital Billboard That Could Block Views
ALBANY (CBS SF) -- Some East Bay residents are seeing red over digital billboards that they don't want in their neighborhood.
Neighbors in Albany are calling a proposed digital billboard visual pollution of their spectacular views.
"We see the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, we see all this water," resident Christopher Kirham said.
The million dollar view is what lured many buyers to condos in Albany over a decade ago, but soon they'll see a new public works building on an empty lot at I-80 and I-580.
That was okay with neighbors, until they realized a lighted, digital billboard with two screens was part of the deal.
"It's blight. It's visual pollution, and we don't want to look at it," Kirham said.
The billboard would generate $150 thousand a year for the city.
The city will get an earful from the public next Monday's city council meeting as they also consider an alternative proposal that does not include the billboard.
